Nyack Hospital is proud to be the first affiliate hospital for Columbia University Medical Center’s Women at Risk Program. Women At Risk (WAR) was founded in 1991 by a grass roots partnership of physicians and patient/volunteers who recognized that high risk women would benefit most from interventions aimed at early diagnosis, and possibly prevention, of breast cancer. WAR® brings together research, education, and treatment services for women who are at high risk for the development of breast cancer.
Women At Risk allocates the largest portion of its funding to research projects benefiting both high risk women and women who have been diagnosed with breast cancer.
WAR also maintains a computerized registry with comprehensive data on all patients enrolled in this program. The registry allows physicians to analyze data about the high-risk population and facilitates both tracking and follow-up. It also serves as an excellent clinical database for the hospital's ongoing research efforts into the early detection, treatment and prevention of cancer.
