Nyack Hospital to Host Annual Cancer Symposium Program for Medical Community
Nyack Hospital’s Annual Cancer Center Symposium will be held Friday, September 24, from 7:30 - 10:00 am in the Krutz Auditorium. This FREE program is open to all healthcare providers, and two contact hours/CMEs will be awarded to all attendees.
Presenters are Patrick M. Lynch, M.D., J.D., Professor, Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition University of Texas, MD Anderson Cancer Center and Umesh K. Gidwani, MD, FCCP, FCCM, Chief, Cardiac Critical Care Cardiovascular Institute, Mount Sinai Hospital
Dr. Lynch’s program is “Identification and Evaluation of Patients with Familial Colon Cancer.”
At the conclusion of his presentation, participants will be able to:
Discuss the recent advances in the knowledge of inherited GI cancer risk
Recognize patients that have or may have conditions involving inherited risk and be able to arrange appropriate genetic counseling and testing
Arrange clinical evaluations based on genetic test results or empiric familial risk
Recognize that standards of care for genetic diagnosis and management do exist and can be a basis for malpractice liability
Dr. Gidwani’s program is “Palliative Care in Practice-Putting the Patient First.”
At the conclusion of his presentation, participants will be able to:
Understand the definition, scope and application of modern palliative care principles
Describe the tools and techniques required for advance care planning
Discuss the differences between hospice and palliative care
Understand recent changes in New York State law pertaining to "Life Sustaining Treatment"
