Kennedy Funding Invitational Tennis Tournament
Continues the Fight Against Breast Cancer
For the fifth year in a row, The Kennedy Funding Invitational Tennis Tournament brought world class tennis to Rockland County and continued to support the fight against breast cancer. The Breast Center at Nyack Hospital was a beneficiary of the tournament, which raised $475,000.
The tournament was founded in 2006 by fellow friends and local tennis enthusiasts Kevin Wolfer, Mitch Klein and James Miller.
This year’s tournament attracted many top professional players such as world-ranked 2008 Kennedy Funding Invitational Women’s champion Victoria Azarenka; American sensation Melanie Oudin, who captured the 2009 Kennedy Funding Women’s Championship; Michael Russell, former NCAA Rookie of the Year; and Paul Goldstein, the 2006 Kennedy Funding Invitational winner with 26 USTA Circuit titles.
Local favorite Christina McHale defeated Victoria Azarenka to capture the women’s trophy and Alex Bogomolov defeated former KFI champion Michael Russell in the men’s bracket.
