Nyack Hospital was presented with a donation of $225,000 at a reception held Monday evening at the Union State Bank Cancer Center at Nyack Hospital. This donation represents the proceeds from the recent Kennedy Funding Invitational Tennis Tournament. Nyack Hospital plans to direct these funds towards the acquisition of digital mammography systems. Digital mammography is a new technology that expands the ability to detect breast cancer earlier in more women and improves cancer detection in women with dense breasts, women younger than 50 and those that are perimenopausal.
Under the leadership of Tournament Co-Executive Directors Mitchell Klein, James Miller and Kevin Wolfer, the Kennedy Funding Invitational has become a world class tennis tournament, attracting national attention. This year, The Kennedy Funding Invitational was highlighted by a special exhibition match featuring Pete Sampras.
According to Nyack Hospital President David Freed, who accepted the donation at the ceremony and reception, “Since 1999, the Union State Bank Cancer Center at Nyack Hospital has been providing outstanding medical care to the residents of Rockland County. The addition of digital mammography will further enhance its capabilities, continuing to bring the best of cancer care close to home. We are enormously grateful to the organizers of this tournament for helping to increase breast cancer awareness. Their tireless efforts will benefit the women of Rockland County for years to come”
Nyack Hospital is a 375-bed community acute care medical and surgical hospital located in Rockland County, NY. Founded in 1895, it is a member of the NewYork-Presbyterian Healthcare System.
