Nyack Hospital’s Respiratory Care Department provides state of the art inpatient and outpatient services for individuals who require treatment for a variety of pulmonary disorders.  Our respiratory therapists, under the direction of a physician, provide diagnostic, therapeutic and educational services.  They are trained and educated in the field of oxygen therapy, pulmonary function testing, and the operation of equipment to assist and control breathing.

Our dedicated inpatient unit offers the expertise of specially trained medical personnel who are familiar with the unique needs of patients suffering from respiratory illnesses and conditions, such as asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, or emphysema.

In addition, licensed and trained respiratory therapists provide care for patients throughout the hospital who experience breathing difficulties.

Respiratory therapists evaluate and treat all types of patients, ranging from premature infants whose lungs are not fully developed to elderly people who are affected by a variety of pulmonary disorders. Respiratory therapists provide care to patients with chronic conditions, as well as emergency care to patients who experience a sudden breathing problem due to heart attack, stroke, drowning, shock or other situation.

Respiratory Therapists also provide valuable information about smoking cessation.  For further information on the dangers of smoking and how to quit the smoking habit, click here.

Each month, Nyack Hospital hosts a Better Breathers Support Group, designed for individuals who are affected by pulmonary disorders or difficulties.
